
Chris Bergere
Chris Bergere joined the Next Generation Diving Team in November, 2010.
Chris is also the Yale University Head Diving Coach. Chris comes to Next
Generation Diving with extensive experience in the sport, on local, national
and international levels. Prior to moving to Connecticut, Chris spent
eight years at the helm of the esteemed diving program at the
University of Michigan, where he helped men’s program to
Seven top-10 national finishes in swimming and diving during his tenure and
Was named the Big Ten Women’s Diving Coach of the Year in 2008.
While at Michigan , Chris coached Jason Coben to the 2003 NCAA
Platform diving championship, the first in school history. Coben won the
platform diving title and was named the Big Ten Conference Diver of the
Championships in both 2003 and 2004. The Wolverines claimed three Big Ten
Championships during his tenure.
The Michigan women's swimming and diving program twice finished in the
Top 10 at the NCAA Championships during Chris' coaching career there and
claimed the 2004 conference title. Chris helped Elyse Lee qualify for three
straight NCAA Championships during her career, capping it with All-America
honorable mention in the one-meter springboard with a 14th-place finish at
the 2008 NCAAs.
On the international scene, Chris led the United States diving team
at the 2009 World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia. It marked the second time he coached the national team at that level (2003). He was also a coach at the 2004 Olympic Trials.
Prior to Michigan, Chris spent 17 years as the Head men's and women's diving coach at his alma mater, LaSalle University. He was named the conference's Diving Coach of the Year eight times during his tenure with LaSalle, including four straight seasons From 1999 through 2002. He began his coaching career at LaSalle Immediately following his graduation in 1986.
