Next Generation Diving was founded by head coach (and Yale University diving coach) Ryan Moehnke in 2005, as a new age-group diving program serving the Fairfield and New Haven County areas. Assistant Coach Jeanine Oburchay joined Ryan shortly after the inception of the team. Moehnke's objective was to broaden the available offerings in the sport of diving in
Connecticut, which can be challenging in an area where pool time and pools
are scarce commodities.
Still, by leveraging the location of the Norwalk YMCA for his one-meter
practices and the Kiphuth Pool at Yale University for 1- and 3-meter
practices, Moehnke has successfully grown his program in a very short time
to include more than 30 divers, 5 YMCA National Champions, 18 AAU National
qualifiers, 11 AAU National finalists, 2 AAU National Champions, 4 US Diving
Junior National Qualifiers, and 5 US Diving East Junior National Qualifiers.
Additionally, the Next Generation Diving Team won the overall combined YMCA National Championship Meet in 2008, the same year that the Next Generation Diving Men's Team won the Men's YMCA National Meet. In 2009, NextGeneration Diving Women's Team took home the gold at the YMCA National Meet.
Moehnke's philosophy at the age group level is simple and straightforward --
provide each diver with the skills and fundamentals he or she needs to be
the best diver he or she can be, in a fun, positive environment. Moehnke
was a co-author of the START program that has been implemented at the
National Training Center in Indiana and his unparalleled knowledge of skills
and fundamentals allow him to provide an elite level of coaching for young
age group divers of any skill or experience level. Moehnke combines
relevant dry-land skills practices with skills and fundamentals in the
water, trampoline practices and strength training to optimize each diver's
growth and potential. His knowledge combined with his consistently positive
attitude have contributed to Next Generation's success. |
